configuration problems with gmp

I'm having trouble installing dr. genius.

I have installed the gmp.2.0.2 and tested it.  But
when I try to configure dr. genius, I get the
following result:

checking for mpz_init_set in -lgmp... no
checking for mpz_init_set_d in -lgmp2... no
configure: error: GMP Library not found

Any suggestions?

Could it be that I have don't have the GMP files in the proper place?
