Yes, I know that there is a lot of discussion about in the archive, but
I don´t understand what is the final choice from all the people about
this subject.
I started a thread asking for a maner to attach a symbol to the
file, as a forth option to insert a symbol, creating a subdir in the
current schematic dir, named something like "geda-symbols". Then putting
this symbol there, since to edit a embedded symbol is not allowed yet.
Many replies was come, but what was choiced?
3 question in my mind:
1. What about to edit embedded symbol? Is it in TODO list? Is there
any form to do it that I don´t know?
2. Am I trying to advance anything that is currently working around?
3. Is there the possibility to add this forth option in the insert
dialog box to Attach symbol?
How it could be work:
Selecting a symbol by "attached" option gschem could create a
"geda-symbols" subdir (if there isn´t) and put the symbol there.
This sub dir, by default, could be the first pseudo-lib to consult
by geda-gaf (gshcem, gnetlist etc.)
I think that is not so hard to implement.
Anyway, to edit an embedded component allowed, would turn it
completelly deprecated.
I think that you are working about to turn the gschem file a XML
format. Maybe then, this is a undesireble discussion.
But, we need to keep in our minds that is good to allow to edit a
symbol with no compromise to put in the oficial lib, this is allow in
many softwares like OrCad, because you can change a microcontroler pins
just to a better design to a single schematic, maybe deleting some
unused pins.
In my litle experience with OrCad, I like the form that it handle
with this library, creating a big tree with schematics, libraries,
netlists etc.
I know that gEDA is pointing to something near this. In this model,
to edit a embedded component is enough, but to create a geda-symbols as
a embedded library sub-dir is a option to think. Principaly as default
lib use. Think that in a project in CVS. Actualy I copy all libs to a
dir to save with each project to package in a single CVS module.
Let´s choice about one way, and I would be able to help in something
I can.
