Yep, it does seem to be a bit misleading.

I think it should either be moved or updated, unless there is a good
reason for it to be there. I was going to update it, but it is owned by
jfm2, so I can't.

Donovan: how about getting the cron job that makes the tarball to copy it
to the ftp server, having a copy on the ftp server seems like a good idea.
