Yes. GMT -0500 means that in your time zone it's now 5 hours less than
in GMT timezone. So you can add 5 hours to your local time  to get time
in GMT ==> 1800 GMT

BTW: If you invoke date -u (if you are on unix) it will tell you
time in GMT time zone.
