Comment:

 I talked to Dan's student about the idea in person, and Dan's student will
 be writing up a project summary after this quarter is over. I'd say our
 best shot is to wait and see what that says.

 Incidentally, Jed Crandall of UNM has a paper at Usenix Sec last year on
 idle scanning that might be a valuable approach here too.

 In the mean time I think I'm going to close this trac entry as resolved,
 even though no actual blog post appeared.
