Comment (by sukhbir):

 With the Tor Browser updater patches merged (see updater branch on tor-
 messenger-build.git), the user profiles are preserved after update. This
 is also true for OS X where the profile is stored in
 ~/Library/Application\ Support/TorMessenger-Data.
