 Yes, because this isn't Tor's bug.  It's a bug in the GCC on RHEL5.8.  We
 can't fix that. For a good workaround, you'll really need to use a
 different compiler as hiviah discusses above.

 I'd also be happy to take an autoconf patch to try to detect this broken
 compiler behavior, but I'm not sure how to write one myself.

 That, on the other hand, is definitely a bug; opening #8153 for that, and
 writing a fix now.
