Comment:

 I just got hit by this so it is not just Ubuntu.

 However, I do recall sjmurdoch and I doing some hacks to specifically
 disable remoting about 2 years ago... I just tested, and the hacks do
 appear to still work on OSX.

 I guess I'll need to investigate this in more detail..
