 Wow. "New-style" classes are news to me. What is the benefit of them?

 Having to explicitly extend from object seems really, really annoying to
 me. Part of me wants to boycott that on principle of poor language design.

 Did Guido drink too much of the Google kool-aid? What is going on with
 python 3.x? Everything I learn about it makes me think it was designed
 just to annoy python 2.x programmers as much as possible.
