 Good idea. I implemented it as tooltips.

 bug_9387_v7 in my public Torbutton repo has the fix for the lacking slider
 settings descriptions. One small thing I am not happy about it he possible
 tiny misalignment of the slider position label and the slider thumb.
 Mozilla did not implement a natural way of showing a label yet (see:
 https://wiki.mozilla.org/XUL:Slider_Tag for the idea). I tested on
 different Windows and Linux systems and OS X 10.6.8 and I think we can
 live with that for now especially as getting that properly done from
 extension land might be not easy.

 It turned out we forgot some strings in our descriptions in comment:82. I
 adjusted the things in comment:43 which reflects the implementation in
 bug_9387_v7 now. I folded the MathML related work done in #13548 into it.
 Let me know if anything does not make sense.
