 I downloaded the 32 bit version (the first listed on the Linux download
 page), as I have a 32 bit system.

 I ran the command you listed at the terminal and it opened Vidalia and the
 Tor Browser -- thank you for the tip.  After I type the command I get the
 message "Qt: Session management error: None of the authentication
 protocols specified are supported".

 After Tor is running, I see the onion icon on my panel, but don't see an
 option to start Tor from any of the Applications menus.  Is the only way
 to start Tor through the terminal, or will the onion icon appear
 automatically after I boot my computer each time?
