Comment:

 Update: I think that this ticket has a lot of confusion above: what makes
 sense IMO is not supporting any kind of http proxy/rewriting/cacheing
 complexity, but instead supporting "HTTP CONNECT" as an alternative to
 SOCKS.  I'm opening 22407 as tracking HTTP CONNECT only, and closing this
 as duplicate.
