 Not in particular; I'm just not able to repro these very well despite
 hearing a lot about them, so I'd like to know what I'm doing differently.
 I've been spending this whole thing grepping through multigigabyte debug
 logs myself... don't worry about it for now, I think I figured this out.

 Yeah, that's possible.  Did you build with bufferevents enabled, by any
 chance?
