 Not sure if this was the question, but I can imagine use cases for doing
 searches by CIDR block of any size.  Most likely, people would ask for
 something smaller than /24, but I wouldn't say that /16, /8, or even
 bigger would be too big for a search.  Compare this for people wanting to
 search for nicknames containing the letter "u" (as in "Unnamed") or for
 fingerprints starting with "f", which all return pretty large result sets,
 too.

 Without going too much into implementation details, you may want to
 consider a different data format for storing and searching IP addresses
 than dotted-quad notation strings.  IP addresses are just numbers, and if
 people want to search for a range of numbers, there are easier ways to
 express that than a string that was designed to be easily memorable by
 humans.  (Not saying that I did a smarter thing with current Onionoo, but
 hey, no reason you cannot learn from my mistakes. ;))
