 I agree with Nick that the mystery here is the clock jump -- the other
 things like the cpuworker line follow from that clock jump mystery.

 In the past, we had issues where libevent thought time had passed when it
 hadn't. Those were only on weird platforms, like some of the BSDs, but
 here we are with one of those. Curious.
