 If I understand it correctly you'll
  1. replace one symlink with another one
  2. have the link count of (regular) files (for some of the files in some
 directories) that we serve be greater than 1.

 These two should be independent of each other.

 re 1: If we already allow symlinks, then changing the symlink probably
 will not break anything.
 re 2: I'd fine it highly surprising if apache cared.
