And of course, confirming that some email address can receive email is
not the same as knowing the operators.

There's also the issue where a small number of relays fail to update, and are eventually excluded from the network. These people still think they are contributing, and because they don't have email addresses, there's no way to let them know that they need to update. It's not impossible to have an OTR/email address (etc) and still be anonymous.

Especially for exits, there should be contact information. It's a fairly minor requirement when compared to the time and expense that running an exit entails. Middle nodes? Maybe not.
