Hi Lorne,

Thanks for your reply. Partimus does have the capacity to work remotely with educators in Canada. We currently don't do that kind of work, but we are trying to grow as an organization. There are obviously some things that we can do remotely.

Partmus basically provides, hardware, software, training and support. In the past, we have always started with the hardware, because that is a concrete valuable good that the teachers can put their hands on and point to and say "Partimus gave us these machines." However, as time goes by, we are finding that more and more teachers are coming to understand the value of installing free software on machines, and they might just need some technical expertise to help them.Â

For example, we have a teacher in Oakland who has been installing Lubuntu manually on her computers. We are in the process of developing a CD that she can put into the clients, hit enter a couple of time, and she has a standard installation across her network of fat clients. Of course, the difference there is that we can drive to Oakland to help her with the physical machines. But there is also going to be a remote aspect to our work, and maybe we could help you in that way. I just need to know what your needs are.

Shipping machines is expensive and probably not cost effective. But there might be other ways that we could help you. I am willing to explore that with you, if you are interested. I am happy to talk by phone or email you separately off of the list to find out how we might be able to help you.ÂÂÂ

Hi,

I am the Executive Director of Partimus.org, a small non-profit that places GNU-Linux computers in public schools. I appreciate this thread, and I would like to speak with educators who are using it in classrooms; or who are encouraging its use at home and integrating that into the classroom in some fashion. Thanks!
