[school-discuss] Workshops on open standards

At the 'Opensource' AICA workgroup (italy), people is currently discussing the
offering of workshops for teachers providing explainations about why and
how to care about data formats.
Workshop should tackle issues as the following:
- saving a text file (e.g., while using ms-word editor, RTF format is better
than ms-doc for saving text files )

- creating web pages, complying with W3C directives
- crafting multimedia products, paying attention to 'open' standards

My questions are about criteria we should adopt for 'open standard' definition,
which formats are advisable and which are to be discouraged.
Any suggestions?

Any references to similar initiatives?

Thank you
