[school-discuss] Bye-Bye PCs?

Here's an article that may provide food for thought:

http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/071104/bye_bye_pcs.html

If the traditional desktops & laptops really are
fading away as the great "electronic convergence"
continues, what will this mean for the process that
we broadly call "technology education" and also for
"educational technologies" (whatever that may mean)?

It is true, of course, that people already have
Linux distros, some BSD flavors, and other FLOSS
operating systems (and FLOSS apps, naturally)
running on phones and Nintendos and whatnot. But
how do the educational angles work themselves out?
How will curricula be shaped if we no longer can
really define the hardware environment in the ways
that we were accustomed to for a long time?
