The diagram you sent is an interesting way to position social
software.

How strongly do people agree with the taxonomy illustrated in the
diagram?  Do you have a feel for the extent of agreement?


I agree strongly with the taxonomy presented in the diagram. Still the diagram is more a "mind map" than a taxonomy as all the items in it are not comparable to each other. The items are kind of "key words" (one could call them buzz words, too) that are loosely related.

For instance social software are *tools* that can be used for
connecting people but also to connect information, knowledge and
intelligence. The beauty of social software - including the World
Wide Web itself - is that it handles intelligence, knowledge and
information as something that is dialogic in nature. Behind social
software there is the assumption that "all higher [mental] functions
originate as actual relations between human individuals" (Lev Vygotsky).

From the diagram we also see that there is very little "tools" in
the field of "the metaweb". So, it very well points us on what
direction we should go when designing tools.
