I don't know if it's quite what you're after but Chris Sangwin at
Birmingham has written an assessment front end for the Maxima open
source CAS, see http://stack.bham.ac.uk/
There's also work being done on interfacing Moodle with some of this
stuff, see http://mantis.york.ac.uk/serving_maths/
