I guess the most important difference between LTSP and diskless is end-user experience:
* LTSP - Generated little or no demand for Linux in the schools.
* Diskless - Generated high demand for Linux in the the schools.

Diskless shines:
* Google earth, 3d CAD, blender, 3d games, 3d desktop.
* Easy-to-use plug'n play USB devices.
* Sound & Video editing.
* Running all apps on the client is simpler and runs cleaner.
* Diskless distributes the the workload off of the server and onto all the client's CPU/GPU/RAM.
