Educational software

I'm new to the SEUL mailing lists; is this one active? I notice that
there are no March archives.

Anyway, if Linux is to be made an OS for the average home user to
install and use on a day-to-day basis, there's one category of
application that I think needs to be added: educational software.
Currently you can get a diminishing number of educational programs for
Macintosh and the majority for Win3.1/95. For those of us with small
children at home, the availability of educational software is a
requirement. I only managed to get Linux past my wife by assuring her
that Executor (a Mac emulator) would allow us to run sufficient
educational software for our 6-yr. old.

I realize that writing (or porting) edu. software probably isn't as
interesting or fun as kernel hacking or game writing, but it's probably
one of the base requirements for general use. Plus, it could get SEUL
into elementary school classrooms; the presence of Macs in such
classrooms is one of the big reasons Apple is still around, I think.
