I've been poking around the Casbah Project website
<http://www.ntlug.org/casbah/> lately.  They have an interesting
architectural design and appear to have thought through much of this. 
We should probably look over what they're doing and see if we can use
some or all of it as "backend" to our work.  As Roger once said, use and
adapt as much as you can from already-developed software.
