adhoc status report 1998/12/25 14:45:35

hi everyone,

in the last mail i outlined the roadmap for project adhoc. this one is
the first of a (roughly) weekly series of status reports and partially
describes the report methods.

basically, reports will simply list:
- new info found
- changes to the project direction (progress, planned)
- changes to the code base (progress, planned)
- miscellanenous

here's today's report:

- new info found
  - a seul-edu reader (do you mind me citing your name?) mentioned the
availability of aalib by Jan Hubicka (hubicka@paru.cas.cz) et al.
this is a library for ASCII rendering; ie, programs that use its API
can "draw" using pixel semantics and the output is text. this is
in line w/ the project requirements and should prove very useful.

- changes to the project direction
  - question: should aalib be bundled w/ adhoc or should adhoc ask for
aalib and degrade (gracefully) if not found?

- changes to the code base
  - aalib source downloaded and built
  - planned: wrap aalib for use as a guile module

- miscellaneous
  - question: does seul-edu support a mailing list or project-specific
web page? (perhaps these reports should go there instead of to the
    general seul-edu@seul.org list.)

happy hacking,
thi
