Is it too late to put up a page at the same URL that nicely announces the 
Jan 8 unveiling, and perhaps links to pages that may be ready now?

That base page can then just be replaced when the official site is properly 
prepared.  I like the idea of putting up the quality site, but a cordial 
placeholder could perhaps buy us some time and not alienate interested 
surfers.
