i thought i would recommend a neat app someone wrote for browsing the
freshmeat appindex:

it allows you to quickly bring up a list of all the software in any fm
category.  as you scroll though the entries, summary information is
presented at the bottom of the screen.  hit return, and you get the
full details.  other keystrokes bring up the homepage in a browser,
download the source or the rpm or deb, etc.

if you run fetchappindex with cron every night, you'll alway be
up-to-date.  as we add more software to console/education and
x11/education, you may find this to be an easy way to find educational 
software.
