[seul-edu] long usernames?

I have just configured a new server.  I  was wondering
if anybody knows if it is now an "Okay" idea to use
login names longer than 8 characters.  I tried this a
couple of years ago, and it created some problems.

The server is running RH 6.1.  Anybody know the wisdom
of creating 300 accounts with long usernames?
