Re: [seul-edu] Mail list versus UUNET newgroup

I guess it dates back to my old USENET and Fidonet history, but I much
prefer email for this type of discussion over web forum. Heck, I tried
the web forum thing several years ago, and gave up on all of the ones I
joined. Email is very near realtime nowdays, and works very well on low
speed, high latency links. If I am dealing with a very busy day, it's not
uncommon for me to catch up on my email via my cell phone (Kyocera
QCP-6035, PalOS based), using TopGUN ssh, and a 14.4K dialup.

I would not mind a USENET gateway, but that leads to other issues (spam,
hipcrime, email address publication, etc).

If the seul-edu list was a web forum, I would not even be able to
contribute the small amount to it that I currently do. I would have to
check to be sure, but I seem to remember being on this list since 1997,
maybe 1998. Very soon after I started the project at Corbett Elementary
School. There are several other lists I am on (The Hardware Group
(www.hardwaregroup.com), and the Tucson Free Unix Group (www.tfug.org))
that I have been on for about as long... You don't really see that kind
of history with a web forum.
