Can understand your sentiment. 
The main reason I will persist with Linux is the Bill gates black hole and
the stability it promises!! 
My Board of Trustees are suspicious of anything that does not look like what
their children will experience in the "real" world.  Mostly MS Office!!!
I also have downloaded Star Office and tried to 'sell' it to my BOT.

Situation is a little more complex than my note perhaps indicates . . BOT
want the system up by the end of next weeek!! . . but I am finding LNUX by
my bootsatrps hard work . .  not least because I am so darn busy with other
immediate demands!! Win 98 will be it in the meantime.
Lotus Millenium suite was supplied with the system. 
Only other software I am purchasing is Kid Pix Deluxe!!  
maybe is a luxury compared to your situation  . but Government wants
computers in all schools . . 
Use browser and E-mail and that is it for now!!!
