Ahem.  It is not an absurd idea.  Ask Linus.  The Linux kernel is almost 
completely modular now, and it's by far the hardest program of all to 
modularize.  Apache does it.  Tcl/Tk can do it.  PostrgeSQl *doesn't*.  Part 
of our job may be to help programs that can't be modularized now convert over 
so they *can* be in the future.
