3.1 is linked to Motif.  I believe that 4.0 is linked to another
library.  I'm not sure exactly what the status of that library is, but
from what I've heard, it definitely not as proprietary as Motif.

I will download the 4.0 beta, see if I can get it to work, and what
library it uses.
