I may be wrong, but when I used an AOL 30-day thingy a few years ago,
although it appeared to be an unopenable black box, while the AOL software
was running a fully-fledged winsock was availible to the rest of the
system - hence I used to start the AOL software, minimise it, and use
Netscape as a browser. So if you can get hold of any standard FTP client
(e.g. CuteFTP) you should be able to use it.
When I was using it only a 16-bit winsock was availible, so you were stuck
with Win3.1 programs, but I assume AOL have got their act together on this
by now.
