Ok, the next step is to decide if this actually wants to be a howto,
or if it wants to be a mini-howto or some other sort of doc.
If it ends up being a howto or similar, you'll want to put it into
the linuxdoc format:
might help with this. If you're not comfortable with sgml/linuxdoc,
you might want to get somebody on the LDP to help you out with that. But
that's down the road a bit.
In any case, it will want to be at least html-ified.
Doug: are you familiar with the seul website/cvs conventions? We can put
this on the seul site eventually, and I imagine it will generate quite a
bit of interest.

Another good section to add would be 'resources'. This would include
other articles on advocating ports to Linux, other articles on why
companies don't want to port to linux (the linux myth dispeller
comes to mind), other articles on why linux is cool, etc. It would
also include companies like ardi and projects like twin and wine.
I'm afraid I don't have too many comments on actually making the
connection with the companies and convincing them to do the right
thing. Not very many people have experience doing that, so you'll
be lucky to find people who can say "yeah, do that, it works" or
"i've tried that six times, and it never worked". The next thing to
do is html-ify it, fix up the small comments I've made, and then
mention it to a broader group of people. seul-project and seul-announce
would be a good start, as might comp.os.linux.advocacy and the various
user lists for redhat/debian. Once you've got a lot more comments on it,
then you should contact Somebody-Important in the linux doc project (or
I can find that somebody for you; I have a few contacts in the LDP) and
see what they think about adding new howto's these days.
As the educational software howto I mentioned above: this also seems like
a good thing to have around. You probably shouldn't spend too much energy
on it until you've gotten the commercial-port-howto off the ground.
Basically, it would have a couple sections right now:
* definition of education software. what qualifies, what doesn't.
* why it's important for linux to have educational software.
* some good ways of converting non-linux edusoftware to linux (ardi,
* companies that have ported, or are interested in porting. in
particular, what help they need to become completely convinced.
Reward companies that have ported to Linux with a prominent position
in a globally-distributed document. They'll think this is cool.
* companies that haven't but should, along with good contact points,
and their status. This will encourage them to get off the bad list
and onto the good list, and it will also give people a good idea
of how things are going.
* Resources and other documents.
You can grab a lot of this from what you've already written about
