 Thanks!  I've merged your changes into mine.

 I'm still not happy with the LD_BUG message: I worry that it's doing the
 wrong thing some times.  For example, I'm pretty sure that controller-
 chosen paths override everything else, including strictnodes.  Also, we
 might be getting a bit too overconfident in saying that we're using the
 excluded node because no other nodes were available: we might be using it
 because of a bug.  I am not sure I know what the message should say
 instead, though.
