 Hmm, what happens to existing applications referencing the implementation
 exception?  Wouldn't those break if we remove that class?  If so, I'd say
 this is something for version 2.0.0.  From `CONTRIB.md`:

 "Regarding version numbers, we'll start with 1.0.0 and bump to 1.0.1,
 1.1.0, 1.2.0, etc. for each backwards-compatible change.  When we remove a
 previously deprecated feature, making a backwards-incompatible change,
 we'll bump to 2.0.0."

 In that case, should we keep this ticket in some list of things to merge
 when putting out version 2.0.0?  We might come up with more backwards-
 incompatible changes we'd like to make, and ideally we'd make them all at
 once, after deprecating things in the 1.x series.
