architecture tordnsel needs to build (amd64?) and whether stable-updates
are included in /etc/apt/sources.list. I'm assuming current Debian stable
 means wheezy.

/etc/apt/sources.list does indeed include security updates. What
 specifically is stable-updates?

stables-updates are usually non-security bug fixes for packages included
by a line in /etc/apt/sources.list (see
 https://wiki.debian.org/StableUpdates and
 http://www.debian.org/News/2011/20110215).

 Probably.
