 Thank you for your reply That appears to be the problem. I'm on a case
 sensitive file system (OS X) and it will only show one of the two files
 for each upper-lower case pair (although as my last comment shows git on
 my computer still seems to recognize the difference). It seems possible to
 convert OS X to be case insensitive but it's not a trivial change.
