 My gcc doesn't have "-Wshorten-64-to-32".  This is completely harmless, I
 assume out_len just needs an explicit cast to int.  If the compiler were
 smarter it would see that, it's impossible for out_len to be big enough to
 where this warning has an impact, but so it goes.
