New description:

 Using the typical Firefox + Torbutton -> Polipo -> Tor setup,
 I noticed that Tor doesn't create warnings when I directly type
 IP addresses into the browser's location bar. This is because
 Polipo forwards that request as a fqdn, so Tor never thinks it
 has an IP address. I don't know if that is the right behaviour
 from Polipo, but it seems that we might not warn about leaks
 when the application resolves the IP itself and tells us we're
 connecting to a hostname?
