 Yeah, but this is annoying for other reasons... What is stopping us from
 fixing this issue? Is it just a pain to merge down the autoconf updates,
 for some reason? Sounds like a separate ticket to me, unless there is some
 real barrier to making maint behave sanely that we're unlikely to ever
 address.
