 another aspect here is how to manage sub-repositories. expanding on the
 "mono-repo" problem discussed above, i have found the following options:

  * current "monorepo" approach
  * pure librarian / r10k
  * submodules
  * git subtree: https://github.com/apenwarr/git-subtree
  * git subtree (same?):
 https://github.com/git/git/blob/master/contrib/subtree/git-subtree.txt
  * git subrepo https://github.com/ingydotnet/git-subrepo
  * "myrepos": https://myrepos.branchable.com/

 i'll add more as i find them here. i should probably make a more detailed
 review of the advantages/inconvenients of all of those...
