working on board AI

I started testing the board AI yesterday.

The first thing I found was a number of bugs that caused
segfaults. I've fixed all the ones I've seen.

At the end of the day, I gave the thing a test, and it took over. I
had a lot of printf statements in there for debugging and they just
started spewing out like crazy. My mouse and keyboard got sluggish and
then pretty much stopped responding. After attempting to close windows
and switch terminals for a while, Gnome seemed to reset itself,
killing all its windows.

It looks like the AI is a resource hog. Maybe I just set the depth and
branches of the goal search too high, or maybe there's an infinite
loop somewhere.

I've checked the code into CVS, since at least some bugs have been
fixed. Feel free to try it out, but consider yourselves warned!

Suppose Sinitta was due in at half past one. At about now (just after
12) we'd say "we better get in there" and we'd write the song and do
it in about 20 minutes roughly.

'Never Gonna Give You Up' (Rick Astley's number one hit) was the
ultimate. It took three and a half minutes.
