gEDA-bug: [Bug 799926] Re: gschem grid barely visible with lightbg theme
Regarding screens:
My (HP) laptop LCD is amazingly poor at colour rendition, but the grid
views fine. I also run it calibrated (but that doesn't make the HW any
better). The other sceen I use regularly is a professional HP screen
(admittedly not the Dreamcolour, I could not afford that!) - again,
calibrated. In my case, the calibration makes no difference to the grid
visibility, just general colour shift.
Ideally we would have it that users to carry their own preferred colour
maps as local config, gEDA doesn't change its config file-format too
often, and people forget that they are carrying around customizations.
We should of course make this easier, and a built in editor would be
nice.
At some level though, this boils down to you asking me to accept and
push a patch which changes a colour scheme I designed, in a way I
dislike, because the settings which suit me don't suit you. One of the
perks of being a developer is that you sometimes get to push your
preferences out as default ;)
I'm prepared to budge on the grid-line colours if others agree that they
look better, but I'd rather prefer not to conceed the pure-white
background.
We have a lot more important things in gEDA (and I probably shouldn't be
whining about this now), but I thought I ought to explain my biases.
Btw Steven - that colour temperature shifting tool looks awesome.

Title:
gschem grid barely visible with lightbg theme
Status in GPL Electronic Design Automation tools:
Fix Committed
Bug description:
The grid lines of gschem are pretty low key with the current gschem-
colormap-lightbg. This depends of course on the contrast and
brightness settings of the monitor. However, grid lines are hardly
visible on four of five TFT monitors I have access to, when settings
are in default position. There is almost no difference visible between
minor and major grid lines.
Find attached a patch to the lightbg color profile for slightly more
pronounced grid lines.
