Initial Comment:
the filename should default to "untitled.sch" with the "untitled" part highlighted so the user can begin typing their filename, or at least the drop down box on the lower left should say "Schematics (*.sch)"

It's not immediately obvious what the extension is supposed to be, and while most people can figure out that it's ".sch", we should make it more obvious.
