In Add Component -> Select Compent:
- You cannot select subdirectories more than one level deep from
/usr/share/gEDA/sym/
Even if you explictly add them in .gschemrc, it will not allow them, it
complains
  Invalid path [$(GEDADATA)/sym/local/connectors/]

- new directories directly under /usr/share/gEDA/sym/ also do not appear.
Apparently, they have to be added to system-commonrc or .gschemrc

- You cannot type text into the "filename" field, either to name a directory or
to
  name a file.
- The crash if you have too many files in directory bug is probably still
present.
- default behavior is "reference component" which creates a nightmare of
files that will be unreadable in the future because they don't stand on their
own.
