In my case, the setting is in ~/.pcb/preferences and the setting is
 
library-newlib = ~/geda/footprints:~/geda/luciani

Is there any difference between "lib-newlib" and "library-newlib"? 
How do .pcb/settings relate to .pcb/preferences?

Am I the only one to be confused by this?
