what's a 9 way 'd'?
In the Farnell catalogue there are couple of pages of D-type
connectors under signal, data and network connectors - they come in
9, 15, 25 and 37-way variants, with solder, crimp and and
insulation-displacement connections on the back. There is even a
hybrid D-type connector where the shell sacrifices a number of small
pins for an SMB sized coax connector insert or a high-current power
pin - the foot-print for those parts is something of a swine.
