gEDA-user: Bloated libraries

I had glib-2.5.4 installed so I installed glib-2.4.8 (without removing
the old one)

But then gtk+ ./configure complained that:
1) glib >= 2.4.0 was not found
2) pkg-config report glib-2.4.8 version
3) glib version 2.5.4 was found

Which is obviously a lie because 2.5.4 >= 2.4.0

It looks like glib-2.4.8 and 2.5.4 can't be in the system at the same
time.

I wonder what I am going to do when I hit some program that will require 2.5.4
as geda now requires 2.4.8. Am I going throw my computer out of window because
I can't have them both at the same time?

Or am I going to make two Linux installations, one with glib-2.4.8 and another
with glib-2.5.4?

These libraries make an impression of bloatware on me. Why can't they just make
them able to be installed in more versions at once, or don't change the
functionality so rapidly that gEDA requires 2.4.8 and can't cope with 2.5.4?

I suggest gEDA be supplied as one huge pack with it's own glib, gtk etc
versions that compile-in *statically* into the gEDA code. These endless
annoyances would then finally disappear.
